Interim workers must take 31 days off to adhere to the requirement of working 230 days within a year. This includes public holidays.

If you are a Scottish Government worker, you can view public holidays on Saltire.

Leave and work days

For the current financial year, the following information applies:

  • Total days off - 31 days
  • Total work days -  230 days

These figures are pro-rata calculated for staff who work less than 5 days/35 hours per week.

Public holidays

There are six public holidays that must be taken as part of the year:

  1. Good Friday
  2. Easter Monday
  3. Christmas Day
  4. Boxing Day
  5. New Year's Day
  6. 2nd January (Scottish holiday)

This leaves 25 days (pro-rata) to be taken throughout the year, with the agreement of your manager.

Uncontracted days year

The uncontracted days year runs from 1 April to 31 March, aligning with the financial year reporting.
